Billie Marie Camp, of Sulphur Springs, formerly of Quitman, passed away Tuesday morning, May 17, 2022 at the age of 89.
Billie Marie camp, known as Marie by most, was born in Winnsboro, Texas on June 5, 1932 to the late Teddy James Cater and Ruth Poe Cater. She was raised on Cater Hill just outside of Winnsboro. She married the love of her life, George Hoyt Camp, on March 6, 1948 in Winnsboro. They were married 71 wonderful years before his passing in 2019.
Hoyt and Marie were the owners of Western Auto Store for 25 years, retiring in 1994. She and Hoyt enjoyed traveling after retirement. Marie also worked briefly for an aircraft company that built airplanes during the Korean War era and worked as a hairdresser as well. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Quitman before moving to Sulphur Springs in 2018. Marie was a former member of the American Businesswomen’s Association and the Quitman Garden Club.
She greets in Heaven her husband, George Hoyt Camp; parents, Teddy James Camp and Ruth Poe Camp; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Camp Harris and Dickie Harris; grandson, Jeffrey Harris; grandson-in-law, Dennis Criner; three brothers, Glen Cater, Ray Cater, and Lee Allen Cater; and one sister, Bobby Hollingsworth.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, James Edwin Camp of Phoenix, Arizona; one sister, Carolyn Newton; four grandchildren, Kim Criner, Stacey Snider, James Eric Camp, and Christopher Nolan Camp; four great grandchildren, Colin Camp, Jeremy Henderson, Davison Criner, and Crystal Criner; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Graveside service for Mrs. Camp is scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Mineola with Pastor Joel McMullen officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday evening at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations.
