Billy Eugene Mullican, 81, returned to his heavenly home on February 22, 2023.
He was born on August 21, 1941 in Dallas, Texas to parents Johnnie Edward and Beatrice “B” Griffin Mullican. Billy grew up in the Dallas area and attended Grand Prairie High School. After high school he joined the United Stated Air Force. Billy served his four-year term in Alaska and served proudly.
He met the love of his life Darlene Ledlow, and they married on November 25, 1967, in her hometown of Wynnewood, Oklahoma. The two lived in Grand Prairie while Billy was a truck driver for over 30 years before retiring in 2005.
After retirement, they moved to Quitman and for the last nine years Billy drove bus #12 for Quitman Independent School District. He loved driving “his kids” to and from school. They would bring him notes and gifts and called him Mr. Bill! They were very special to him. Billy was also apart of the American Legion in Mineola, Post # 0296; he loved bird watching and feeding; and he loved to watch the National Weather Chanel and give everyone the forecast.
He is preceded in death by his parents Johnnie and Beatrice Mullican; brothers, Joe Thomas Mullican and Johnnie Ray Mullican; sister, Claudia Robbins, and one baby sister; son-in-law Robert Haggard; and several cousins.
He survived by his loving wife of 54 years Darlene Mullican of Quitman, Texas; son, Jeff Mullican of Quitman, Texas; daughters, Michelle Mullican of Jackson, New Jersey and Gena Haggard of Grapevine, Texas; grandson, Dylen Haggard; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
Visitation for Billy Mullican will be held 6:00pm-8:00pm Tuesday, February 28 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations. Funeral Services will be held 10:00am Wednesday, March 1 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations with Brother Fred Morrow officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the QISD Bus Barn Employees.
Billy will be laid to rest at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 9:30AM Thursday, March 2, 2023.
