Carolyn Kay (Katy) Woodard

Katy, daughter of Wayne and Rose Quillen, was born July 29, 1948 in Independence, Missouri.

Katy is preceded in death by her father and mother, Wayne Quillen and Rose Quillen-Fortner.

She is survived by her husband, Darell Woodard of Quitman, Texas; and children, Shelly Powell and family of Garland, Texas, Chris Woodard and family of Forney, Texas, Steven Woodard and family of Fruitvale, Texas. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Grasse; brother, Wes Quillen; and sister, Gay Lynn Davenport.

Katy graduated from Van Horn High School in 1966; she met Darell in high school and they were married in 1967. They moved to Texas in 1968 while serving in the U.S. Army. They permanently moved to Mesquite, Texas in 1972. Katy was active in her church, Girl Scouts, and Mesquite Soccer. She worked for Mesquite ISD for 13 years. In 2007, she moved to Mineola, Texas and worked for Mineola ISD until retirement. After retirement, Katy and Darell settled in Quitman, Texas. Here she lived until September 5, 2024, when Katy lost her battle with Alzheimer’s.

Katy spent a lifetime making people laugh and smile, finding light in the darkest of moments. She always used her beautiful singing voice to honor God. She diligently worked to bring joy to others through her drawings and crafts.

Graveside service for Katy Woodard is scheduled 10:00 AM Friday, October 4, 2024 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Community of Christ Church in Mesquite at 10:00 AM.
