Charles “Big Charlie” Ray Cromeans, 65, of Quitman, passed away on February 22, 2025. Born on September 30, 1959, in Freeport, TX, Charlie was the son of the late Cecil Ross Cromeans and Lorene (Poehl) Cromeans.
Charlie’s story was one of love, adventure, and joy. He married the love of his life, Sherri Lou Brinkley, in 1983, just five weeks after meeting her on a blind date. Together, they shared a life filled with laughter, love, and memories. After retiring from Dow Chemicals in 2010, Charlie and Sherri made the decision to move to Quitman 17 years ago from Clute, TX, where they embraced the peaceful life in the country.
Charlie was a passionate and caring soul, with a heart full of love for his family, animals, and children. He was a true animal lover, treating his “fur babies” like they were his children. His playful personality made him a favorite among kids. Known as a “baby whisperer,” he had a magical ability to calm a crying baby almost instantly.
In his youth, Charlie was an avid baseball player. In his later years, he enjoyed reading, loved spending time fishing, and was always up for traveling and going on cruises, exploring new places and making memories with his loved ones. His playful spirit, along with his kind heart, will be missed by all who knew him.
Charlie’s memory will live on through the love he gave to those around him, and he will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Lorene Cromeans; his father-in-law, Charles Brinkley; and his mother-in-law, Molly Brinkley.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Sherri Cromeans of Quitman; daughter, Brandi Cromeans of Clute; sister, Edith Zimmermann of Lake Jackson; brother, David Cromeans of Lake Jackson; brothers-in-law, Chuck Brinkley (Joan) of Graham, and Michael Brinkley (Stacey) of Lavon; sister-in-law, Shelby Barry (Bryan) of Chickasha, OK; mother-in-law, Patsy Brinkley of Chickasha, OK; his fur babies, Lillie and Mack; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Memorial service for Big Charlie will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 28, 2025 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations.
