Charles Rodney Waggoner

Charles Rodney "Rod" Waggoner passed away peacefully on July 15, 2023 from complications of Alzheimer's. He will be forever remembered as "Pappy" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rodney was born on August 3, 1934 in Mills County, Texas to Louise and Wilbur Waggoner. He lived most of his young life in Winters, Texas, where he went to High School and played football and basketball. Rodney attended several colleges including Howard Payne, Hardin Simmons, and Sul Ross where he played basketball and football. Deciding against college he returned to Winters to work for Dunigan Tool & Supply. While there he met the love of his life, Jeanie Knight who worked for Humble Oil (Exxon) and had moved from San Angelo. They married in 1957 after he was "called" into the Army. He left for Germany soon after they married and she followed him there. They had many memories of Germany.

He was predeceased by his parents, Wilbur and Louise Waggoner and one brother, Dee Waggoner.

 He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jeanie of Mineola; one brother, Bruce and wife Sherrie of Montgomery, Texas; and several nieces.

To this marriage was born three children, Kyle (Lt. Col. Retired) of Borne, Texas; Kirk from Anchorage, Alaska, and Kristi from Van Alystin, Texas. They had 7 grandchildren, Ashley Keller of Portland, Oregon, Brady Brasher of Callisburg, Texas, Sydnee Mir of Washington D.C., Brooks Waggoner of Anchorage, Alaska, Chance Green of Plano, Texas, Lana Strickland of Tioga, Texas; and Will Green of Plano, Texas, 6 great-great grandchildren, and 2 more expected later this year.

Rodney and Jeanie eventually settled in Plano, Texas, where they lived for 28 years. Rodney worked for Hydradyne Hydralics (a division of LOR, Inc.) and Jeanie worked for Plano ISD for over 25 years. When they retired they moved to Mineola, Texas, to Lake Holbrook where they have lived for the past 22 years.

Rodney had life-long delights in playing golf and fishing! Many trips to Alaska for fishing and several vacations with friends to golf. AND a hole-in-one at Lake Fork Country Club Golf Course.

Internment will be at a later date at Lawnhaven Cemetery in San Angelo, Texas.
