Dalton Eugene Monday Sr., a beloved member of the Winnsboro community, peacefully passed away on January 21, 2024, at his home at the age of 89. Born on April 2, 1934, in Winnsboro, Texas, Dalton was the son of the late Morris Elton and Oma Inez Monday.
Dalton was born and raised in Winnsboro, Texas. After graduating from high school, Dalton proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. He joined in August 1952 and dedicated two decades of his life to the Navy, retiring with the honorable rank of RMC (SS) in July 1971. Dalton's service to his country was a source of immense pride for him, and he displayed unwavering loyalty and dedication throughout his military career. Following his retirement from the Navy, Dalton pursued a career as a traffic supervisor in Irving, Texas for many years before retiring.
Outside of work, Dalton had a passion for travel and adventure. He and his late wife, Frances, enjoyed exploring the country in their 5th wheel, creating cherished memories along the way. Dalton was particularly fond of visiting various casinos during their travels, where he could try his luck and socialize with new acquaintances.
In his quiet moments, Dalton found enjoyment in tending to his yard and maintaining a beautiful landscape. He also took great pleasure in listening to the Winnsboro High School football games on the radio on Friday nights, cheering on the team with unwavering support.
Above all, Dalton enjoyed spending time with his family. His grandchildren fondly referred to him as “Grandpa” and he was very proud of all their achievements. His family will miss him deeply and the hole left by his absence will be impossible to fill.
Dalton is preceded in death by his parents, Morris Elton Monday and Oma Inez (Crow) Monday; first wife, Janice Jones Monday; second wife, Frances Monday; daughter, Sheila Ann Monday; son, Dalton Eugene “Butch” Monday Jr.; granddaughter, Misty Monday; and brother, James E. “Turk” Monday.
Dalton leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. He will forever be remembered and missed by his two sons, David Monday and wife Vickie of Winnsboro, and Derek Monday and wife Marcela of Daytona Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Bonnie Monday of Jacksonville; 14 grandchildren, Morgan Warren and husband John, Maegan Vaughn and husband Josh, Mason Monday, Mandy Steger and husband Jacob, Matthew Monday, Michael Monday, Miranda Monday and husband Robert Rust, Micah Monday, Jay Hunter and partner David Hoang, Jessica Durbin, Jonathan Hunter and partner Logan Crawford, Maddie Monday, Max Monday, and Mitch Monday; numerous great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
