David Woodard Covey Jr., 78, of Yantis, Texas, passed away on January 13, 2025. 

David was born on October 14, 1946, in Malakoff, Texas, to David Covey Sr. and Emma Jo Watson Smith. After graduating high school, David served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. 

Following his service, he built a career as a truck driver and married the love of his life, Valerie Lee Honea, on March 1, 1978, in Oklahoma. The couple later moved to Yantis, Texas, in 1985, where they made their home.

 David had a deep love for the outdoors and could often be found fishing, hunting, or simply enjoying nature.

He is preceded in death by his father, David Covey Sr, his mother, Emma Jo Smith, his brother, Layton Covey, his sister Dodie, and his grandson Troy Kovey Ontiveros. 

He is survived by his wife Valerie Covey; son Darrell Honea; brother Stephen Covey; grandchildren Kourtney Ontiveros and husband Alex, Elyzabeth Wilburn and husband Dalton, Dalton Honea; great grandchildren Armani, Sunnie, Ophelia, Ryklyn, Ripp; and his four-legged companion Taz. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Graveside service for David will be held at 9:00AM Thursday, January 16, 2025, at DFW National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00PM Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations.
