David Earl Watkins aka Wampum, passed away at the age of 75 on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at his home.

David was born on October 20, 1947, in Rockwall, Texas to parents Howell and Reba Green Watkins. He was a hot shot driver for a transportation company which allowed him to travel all over the United States. His adventurous spirit leads him from California, to Texas, Utah, Colorado, and Oklahoma. In 1966, on September 23 he married the love of his life, Judy Elaine Hale in California. They have been residents of Wood County since 1986. He enjoyed the mountains, fishing, outdoors, the Dallas Cowboys, Baseball, Westerns, and Fox News.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Watkins of 56 years; children, Michael Watkins and wife Carolyn of Fate, Texas, Tonya Slayton and husband Andy of Hawkins, Texas, and Erica Johns of Hawkins, Texas; grandchildren, Seth, Justin, Kati, Colby, Keele, and Lauryn; eight great- grandchildren; and many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at (high noon) Saturday, July 22 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations.

The family is grateful and appreciative for the assistance of the Hawkins Volunteer Fire Department, that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Fire Department in the name of David Watkins and Family.
