Dorothy Loyd Weir

Dorothy Loyd Weir, age 97, of Yantis, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, in Yantis. She was born on September 8, 1927, in Yantis to Edward McKinley Loyd and Ava Ruth (Gilbreath) Loyd.

Dorothy lived most of her life in Yantis, but lived briefly in Ft. Worth and Winnsboro. She married Hanford W. Weir in November of 1946. Together, they owned and operated The Y Grocery in Winnsboro. However, her most cherished role was as a homemaker, mother, and grandmother.

Growing up, Dorothy attended First Baptist Church in Yantis, and her faith was an important part of her life. She was passionate about gardening and had a particular fondness for flowers, which brought her great joy. Dorothy was also known for being the best babysitter, with a heart full of love for children, and she was an exceptional cook.

Her grandchildren affectionately called her "Granny Dorothy." Dorothy’s kindness, love for family, and joyful spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hanford W. Weir; two sisters, Eddie Ruth Fitzgerald and Rue Nell Meaders; and two brothers, Loye Carroll Loyd and Bob Harold Lloyd.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Brenda Boles and husband Angel Flores of Yantis, Mary Ann Reynolds and husband Jerry Dan of Yantis, Marty Weir and wife Rhonda of Yantis, and Stanford Weir of Yantis; seven grandchildren, Leta Jolley, Michael Boles, Holly Mobley, Justin Reynolds, Steven Cody Reynolds, Brandon Weir, and Miranda Bowers; 8 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Funeral Services for Dorothy is scheduled for 12:00 PM Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, December 14th, at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations in Quitman.
