Marion Edward “Eddie” Veitch, 78, of Quitman, Texas, passed away on January 2, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. Born on May 9, 1946, in Tyler, Texas, Eddie was the beloved son of Curtis and Nettie Barnett Veitch. He was a graduate of Quitman High School and East Texas A&M University – Commerce and then went on to proudly serve his country as a pilot for the US Navy before settling into his lifelong career as a Locomotive Engineer.

On December 31, 1974, Eddie married the love of his life, Marilyn Roberts. Together they raised their family; Edie, Jeff, and Darrell and just recently celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage together.

Eddie was a devoted husband, a loyal friend, and a faithful servant of Christ at Myrtle Springs Baptist Church. Eddie loved to travel with his best friend Marilyn, work in his yard, and watch the Texas Rangers. He had a deep love for adventure and the great outdoors, often setting off on trips that took him to breathtaking places. One of his favorite activities was hiking, especially in the stunning landscapes of Colorado, where he found peace and joy amidst nature’s beauty. However, his most cherished title was “Papa,” as nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with his grandkids. Whether lounging by the pool, cheering them on at games, or simply enjoying their company, those moments were the highlight of his life, filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable memories.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents Curtis and Nettie Veitch; sons Jeffrey Brian Veitch and Darrell Wayne Veitch; and sister Nelda Jeffrey.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marilyn Veitch; daughter, Edie Kaye Newberry and husband James; brother, Bobby Veitch; grandchildren, Kelby, Dakota and fiancée Chelyan, Kirby, Gabby and husband Ian, Karli, Derrick and wife Kayla, Lance, Tara, Kaylee, Nathan, Case, Landon and Corley; great grandchildren, Lylee and Alexa; and many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
