Gene Raymond Powell

Gene Raymond Powell, age 77, of Mineola, went to be with his Heavenly Father on February 23, 2024.  Gene was born March 3, 1946, in Wood County to his parents, Harmon Franklin Powell and Mildred Louise Pike Powell.  Gene resided at Wood Memorial Nursing Home in Mineola for the past 10 years, where he was loved by all the staff and residents.

Gene was born with Cerebral Palsy and lived with his parents until the death of his mother in 1992.  Gene was then cared for by his beloved stepmother, Lena Powell.   Lena cared for him like he was her own son.  

Gene was fun and loving, even though he could not talk, he knew how to make you understand and get his point across.  Gene loved his coffee and would not miss General Hospital every single day of the week.  Gene was a big supporter of the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon and would watch the Telethon in its entirety.  

Gene was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed helping with the offering.

Gene was preceded in death by his father, Harmon Powell; mother, Louise Powell; brother, Jimmy Powell; stepmother Lena Powell; and stepbrother Morris Gary, Jr.

Survivors include his sister, Joyce Watkins and husband Rodney, of Mineola; brother, Mike Powell and wife Amy of Quitman; brother, Ronnie Powell of Quitman; stepbrothers Ivy Jones, Sr. of Quitman and Danny Jones of Missouri; Stepsister Glenda Hill and husband Kevin of Palestine.

A Private Celebration will be held at a later date to be determined.
