Mass of Christian Burial for James Reed Huffman, of Quitman, is scheduled for 10:00AM Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Mineola with Father Lawrence Love as Celebrant. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Mineola.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Lowe-Gardner Funeral Chapel starting at 6:00PM. The Rosary prayer service will take place at 7:00PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
James Reed Huffman was born in Mineola, Wood County, on January 30, 1930 to the late Ben and Zelma (Padgett) Huffman. In 1959 he married the love of his life, Hazel Louise Snell. James worked in Aerospace & Defense and was also a Rancher. He was a very dedicated, determined, and disciplined man. After retiring, the couple moved from Grand Prairie to Quitman in 1986.
James was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and was also involved in community stewardship.
Surrounded by his family, James passed away on Saturday morning, September 25, 2021.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Zelma Huffman; and wife Hazel Louise Snell Huffman; brother Donald Huffman; and sister Billie Gayle.
Left to cherish his memory are his three daughters Rosa Terry and husband James of Louisville, Dolores Helm of Grand Prairie, and Elise Eckhout and husband Brent of Grand Prairie; brother Royce Huffman; sisters Charlene Hubbard and Sandra Watkins; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons, Jason Helm, Bryan Helm, Jeffrey Helm, Christopher Eckhout, Patrick Eckhout, and Zachary Oliver.
