James Robert Pinkston, Jim, or Jimmy as he is still known in his hometown of Quitman, Texas, went to meet his Savior on Monday, October 14, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. He was 77 years old.
Jim was born in Dallas on September 19, 1947, the first child of Joseph and Ann Wilcox Pinkston. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Paula Norton.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeanie; two sisters, Georgie Ziegler and husband Mike, and Pam Ziegler and husband Johnny; and one brother-in-law, Steve Norton. Jim and Jeanie have three children, Keri Wilson and husband Sean, Kristi Swanson and husband Curt, and Greg Pinkston and wife Andra. Jim dearly loved his kids and each of their spouses, and doted on his grandchildren, Bailey, her husband Adam, and Brenna, Colin, Cole, Logan, and Lucas. Jim also has a huge, loving extended family and many, many friends whom he loved dearly.
Jim was an avid bass fisherman and loved traveling, cheering for the Texas Rangers and for the Cowboys until Jerry Jones came along and ruined everything. And he loved being with his family. He especially enjoyed fishing with Jeanie, his kids and grands, and traveling extensively with family.
He accepted Christ as his savior during Vacation Bible School as a young boy and was active in his church for many years, serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for over 30 years. The greatest joy he had was in knowing his family were followers of Jesus.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held in the Fellowship Hall at Myrtle Springs Baptist Church on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 2:00 PM.
The family has requested no flowers. In lieu of that, donations can be made to the Missions Fund at Family Fellowship of Greenville, where Jim was an active member, or to the Gideons International Organization.
