Jimmy Leon Mooring died November 22, 2023 of complications from Parkinson’s at Mercy Hospice House in Durango, Colorado. He was born February 13, 1941 at home in Hawkins, Texas to James Staten Mooring and Mary Viola Alexander Mooring. Jimmy graduated from Monahans High School, in Monahans, Texas and attended Odessa College. He was drafted in 1964 and served as a medic in the US Army at Fort Hood, Texas until 1969. He worked in the natural gas industry in the Odessa area until he moved to Four Corners in 1989 to build Gas Plants for Meridian Oil. He retired from Burlington Resources and moved to Durango in 1999. He was a ski instructor for many years at Purgatory Resort and Santa Fe Ski Resort.
He is survived by wife Jeanie Van Ausdall, his sister Patsy Hunt of Cresson, Texas, Eight Nieces & Nephews: Ricky Mooring, Misty Kimbrough and husband Don of Rockport, Texas, Randy Mooring & wife Renee of Midland, Texas, Ronny Mooring & wife Theresa of Menard, Texas , Vicky & Humberto Alvarez or Lordsburg, New Mexico, Rhonda Davis of Grandfalls, Texas, Stacey Davis & wife Elaina of Midland, Texas, Mike Davis & wife Kippy of Grandfalls, Texas and , sister-in-law Kathy Bogue, step-son Jeff Van Ausdall & wife Tara, daughter-in-law Christy Gamez, six grandchildren and one great-grandson, numerous great-nephews nieces, and too many to count great-great-nephews and nieces.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Clifton “Bo” Mooring & wife Ray Nell, sister Mary Lou Mooring, sister-in-law Carol Wohlfahrt, brother-in-law Robert Stroud and wife, step-son Keith Van Ausdall.
A Celebration of life was held December 2, 2023, 11 am at the Church of Christ, 2100 W 3rd St., Durango, Colorado.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Turner’s Cemetery, County Road 2695, Crow, TX 75773.
