Joye Jackson, of Gladewater, formerly of Wood County, passed away on November 22, 2021, at the age of 88.
Joye was born in Wood County, TX on March 1, 1933, to Ruil Brogdon and Mary (Cruise) Brogdon. She lived in Wood County most of her life until she moved to Gladewater in 2015. She attended high school in Cartwright and was a member of First Baptist Church in Cartwright. In her younger years, she helped on the potato farm, and later worked as a dietician at the Wood County Hospital. Being a homemaker, mother, and Grandma/Granny was what she loved most though. Joye married the love of her life, John Waldrep Jackson in 1958. They were married 39 wonderful years at the time of his passing in 1997.
Joye loved to watch baseball, wrestling, and General Hospital. She wouldn’t dare miss an episode. She had a great sense of humor and kept everyone laughing.
In Heaven she greets her husband, John W. Jackson; parents, Ruil and Mary Brogdon; three brothers-in-law, Eldredge Jackson, Jerry McCauley, and Bill Jackson; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth McAllister.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Johnny Jackson and wife Angienetta of Gladewater, Jimmy Thompson and wife Sheila of Quitman, and Jackie Jackson of Dallas; sister, Patsy McCauley of Gilmer; sister-in-law, Joan Avery; four grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss her dearly.
