We announce with heavy hearts the upcoming funeral services and ceremonies for Lodes Aligie Sherrin Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, brother, fun uncle aka “funcle”, friend, and motorcycle enthusiast. Lodes, a proud Army veteran, passed away on April 3, 2024, in Ogallala, Nebraska.

Lodes was born on August 14, 1958, in Terrell, TX, to William Theodore Dollar and Letta Fern (Golightly) Dollar. After high school, Lodes served his country proudly in the US Army from June 1977 until June 1979.

Lodes worked diligently as a truck driver, or as he humorously referred to himself, a "steering wheel holder," for Total Transportation in Richland, Mississippi, for 10 years. His time spent on the open road gave him joy and fulfillment, though his true passion was his motorcycle, which he cherished above all else.

Throughout his life, Lodes found solace in riding his beloved bike, camping, and fishing, all while sharing these experiences with his family and friends. He particularly relished family reunions where he could watch Eddie and Steven play back when they were in diapers, and motorcycle trips to Luckenbach, Texas, with Harold, Lorie, Lonie, Mary, and Billy.

Lodes’ most cherished accomplishment was his enduring love for his wife, Jane Sherrin, whom he finally married after 61 years of pursuing her. The couple married on July 11, 2020 at their home church, Holy Ghost Central in Alba, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William Theodore Dollar and Letta Fern (Golightly) Dollar; his beloved wife, Jane Sherrin; siblings, Raymond Parker, Debrah Williams, Letta Humphreys, Rose Sherrin, and Becky Butcher; three nieces, Justine McPherson, Terrie Paris, and Keisha McPherson; one nephew, Charles Newman; and best friend, Donald Dailey.

His legacy lives on through his four children, Charles Laird and fiancé Mary Rojas of Quitman, Brenda Laird and fiancé Wes Horn of Florida, Lorie Workman and husband Lonie of Mineola, and Lisa Gilley and husband Jimmie Sampson of Gainesville; four siblings, Leroy Dale Sherrin and wife Diana of Glendive, Montana, Terrie Dollar of Mineola, William Dollar and wife Neva of Tyler, and Vickie Anderson and fiancé Johnny Humphreys of Mineola; brother-in-law, Harold Butcher and girlfriend Barbara of Mineola; stepmother, Mama Jo; best friend aka brother from another mother, Reggie; 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Funeral service for Lodes Sherrin will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations with Doug “Spanky” Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Lodes to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, an organization that was near and dear to Lodes’ heart.
