It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret “Peggy” Lynn (Jones) Crosby, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many! Peggy passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at the age of 84.
Peggy was born on November 9, 1939, in Bamberg, South Carolina to Randolph Mendell Jones and Kathryn (Whittle) Jones. She graduated from Rivers High School, married her high school sweetheart, Jack Howard Crosby who became an FBI Agent, and they were forced to move around. They lived in Virginia where their daughter, Tracey was born, then to Kansas City, then to Fort Worth where their son Jadon was born, and then to Dallas where their son, Rhett was born. While her husband was busy working, Peggy, spent her time taking care of their children and doing what she loved most, Art! She loved taking art classes, painting and making arts & crafts! She was so good that people wanted to buy it, so she set up a booth at the Vikon Village in Garland, TX.
Unfortunately, Jack and Peggy divorced after 25 years of marriage, so to help support her family she had to go back to work full-time and eventually back to school. At 50+ she went on to earn a college degree from Texas A&M Commerce, where she excelled and made the Dean's List.
Peggy and her 3 kids moved from Rockwall to Quitman in 1990, where her and her family became an integral part of the community, attending the First Baptist Church. Peggy was a dedicated art teacher, sharing her passion for creativity with her students at Yantis ISD and later at Mineola ISD until her retirement. She was also a member of the Mount Pleasant Art Club.
In her free time, Peggy enjoyed creating beautiful paintings, sculptures, and doing arts and crafts. She also enjoyed going to Rodeo’s with her daughter who was a professional barrel racer, and the boy’s sporting events. Also, she enjoyed fishing and horseback riding and spending time with her friends. She was an avid fan of the Cowboys, Mavericks, and Stars, showcasing her Texas pride. Peggy was a loving grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Randolph and Kathryn Jones; sister, Judy Jones Burns; brother-in-law, Walter Newman; nephew, Wally Newman; and niece, Whitney Audley.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Tracey Heflin and husband Brent of Quitman; Rhett Crosby and wife Donice of Phoenix, Arizona, and Jadon Crosby and wife Teresa of Princeton, Texas; two sisters, Carol Newman of Alabama, and Kay Audley of Charleston, South Carolina; seven grandchildren, Caymen, Rustin, Stefany, Katelyn, Ondalynn, Courtland, and Easton; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many friends.
Funeral service for Peggy Crosby will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations with Pastor Mike Morrow officiating. She will be laid to rest following the service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Tuesday evening, April 23rd, at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers are Brent Heflin, Caymen Heflin, Rustin Rankin, Jadon Crosby, Rhett Crosby, and Daniel Audley.
Family and friends are invited to come together and pay their respects to a truly remarkable woman. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
