Mary Kate Kirby passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 in Quitman at the age of 85. She was born on May 10, 1938, in Quitman, to Jack and Maggie Blalock, and remained a dedicated citizen of the town throughout her lifetime. Mary dedicated many years of service as a school tax assessor-collector for Quitman Independent School District.
In her younger years, Mary was an active member of a local bowling league. Later, she enjoyed engaging in games at the Forever Young Activity Center. Her family held a special place in her heart, and she cherished being known as "Maw Maw" by her grandchildren.
Mary's spirit was deeply rooted in her faith, and she was an attendee of the First Baptist Church of Quitman. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and dedication to her community.
Mary greets in Heaven her husband, Larry Dean Kirby; parents, Jack and Maggie Blalock; brother, Buddy Blalock; sister, Jo White; and great granddaughter, Kate Renee Daugherty.
Left to cherish her memory is her son Mike Kirby and Missy; grandchildren, Magen Daugherty and Joseph, Mason Kirby and Ali, and Erick McFarland and Aletha; eight great grandchildren, Emmie Kate, Josie, Avylyn, Dylan, Gunner, Rylee, Katie, and Peyton; niece, Sheree Mize and Jerry Bruce; nephew, Shannon White and Jan; and many extended family members and friends.
