Mary Margaret Summer Williford

Quitman, TX - Margaret Williford, age 77, a resident of Quitman, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020 at her home. Margaret was born in Columbia, MS on September 9, 1942, to the late Clyde Summer and Louise Newsom Summer.

Margaret lived a full and adventurous life. From her childhood in rural Mississippi, she traveled the world, living in Africa, Europe, North and South America and Asia. She shared those travels with her children whom she dearly loved. As her children began their own young lives, Margaret settled back in the US to be close to them and the rest of her family.

Margaret was blessed with a large and loving family. She is preceded in death by her husband, George Williford; two brothers, Louis Summer and Harold "Buddy" Summer, and a sister, Josie Summer Walker. Margaret is survived by a brother, John Summer. Margaret raised three children, Mrs. Cory Irwin (Stuart) of Quitman , Mrs. Melissa Bagley (Chris) of Tupelo, and Dr. Billy Powell, Jr. (Kelly) of New Waverly, TX. Margaret was the proud grandmother of Bobby Irwin, Wesley Irwin, Hannah Irwin and Jayna Green (Jacob) from Cory; Ryan and Rebecca Bagley from Melissa and Trace, Blake and Taylor Powell from Billy. Margaret is also survived by a great granddaughter, Jolee Rae from Jayna.

A memorial service for Mary will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday June 12, 2020 at Quitman Cemetery.

Arrangements for a celebration service will be made as soon as current conditions will allow for. Margaret was a member of First United Methodist Church of Quitman. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
