Melvin "Mel" Lee Weber, 77, of Alba, Texas, passed away at his home on January 11, 2025. He was born in El Dorado, Kansas, on August 23, 1947, to Fred Weber and Ruby (Greer) Weber.

Mel proudly served in the United States Navy, dedicating four years of his life to his country. Before his military service, he attended college, first earning an Associate's degree in El Dorado, Kansas. Afterward, he continued his education at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Mel enjoyed a long and successful career as a chemical engineer, retiring about 10 years ago.

Mel and his beloved wife, Milrea Ann Carter, were married in June of 1969. Together, they lived in several places, including Augusta, Georgia, before settling in Alba, Texas, where they embraced a slower pace of life after retirement. He was a proud member of the Submarine Veterans of North Texas, where he forged lifelong friendships with fellow veterans.

An avid outdoorsman, Mel enjoyed many hobbies including crappie fishing on Lake Fork, playing golf, hunting deer, pheasant, quail, and turkey, and trap shooting. His love of the outdoors was rivaled only by his devotion to family. He was a proud husband and father, and known as “Uncle Mel” to his nieces and nephews, offering wisdom, laughter, and a listening ear.

Mel will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, laughter, and service will live on in the memories of those who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ruby Weber; daughter, Jill Weber; and three siblings, Fred Weber Jr., Arnold Weber, and Gladys Krauss.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of over 55 years, Milrea Weber of Alba; daughter, Wendy Gettings and husband Joshua of Burleson; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Towanda Cemetery in Towanda, Kansas, with Stan Ewy officiating.

Serving as pallbearers are Boyd Weber, Richard Weber, David Weber, Mark Weber, John Weber, Mark Perisho, and Ken Krauss.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Submarine Veterans of North Texas, an organization close to Mel’s heart.
