Nancy Ruth Whitmore

Nancy Ruth Whitmore, age 75, of Quitman, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024 at her home. She was born on May 21, 1949, in Dallas, Texas, to Roy Jackson Faires and Ruth Ellen (Kinnard) Faires. Nancy lived a life full of love, laughter, and warmth, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and culinary talent that will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Nancy spent much of her life working as a cook for various school districts, where her skill and care in the kitchen made her a beloved figure. Her homemade biscuits and gravy were legendary, and her ability to bring comfort and joy through food touched the lives of many. Whether it was a school lunchroom or a family gathering, Nancy's cooking was a source of pride, nourishment, and love.

In 2008, Nancy relocated from Wylie to Quitman, where she embraced the peaceful, small-town life. Nancy had a deep love for the outdoors, especially fishing. She loved spending time by the water, casting a line and enjoying nature. She was happiest surrounded by her family, and she will always be remembered as a dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend. Her grandchildren lovingly referred to her as "Nani," a title she wore with pride, and she enjoyed the time she spent with them.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Ruth Faires; and six siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Cynthia Peters and husband Rick of Quitman, and Johnny Whitmore and wife Karen of Paris; four siblings, Kay Bullock of Duncanville, Raymond Faires and wife Shirely of Weatherford, Margie Gerdes and husband Scott of Austin, and Elaine Morgan of of Alabama; eight grandchildren, Ashley and husband August, Austin and wife Brittney, Dusty and husband Mike, Tracy and wife Lauren, Bobby, Dalton, Amber, and Blaine; and 12 great-grandchildren, Dalton, Skylar, Ryan, Tyler, Madison, Cadence, Brecklyn, Charlie, Nate, Lenna, Jacie, and McKenzie; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
