William "Bill" Robert Sawyer, 87, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on January 1, 2025. He was born on February 24, 1937, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Walter Leo Sawyer and Mary Antonia Sawyer.
Bill had a long career as a switchman for Southwestern Bell/SBC in the Kansas City area, serving the company for over 30 years before retiring. He was a dedicated and loving individual who enjoyed listening to Christian music, reading the Bible, praying, and sharing the gospel with anyone willing to listen. His faith was a guiding light in his life, and he spent many years spreading the message of hope and salvation.
Bill also served in the Army Reserves for six years, honoring his commitment to his country.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Leo and Mary Antonia Sawyer; wife, Gloria Jane Sawyer; brothers, Donald Sawyer and Joe Dean Sawyer and wife Beverly; son, Ward Garrison; and nephew, Michael “Mike” Sawyer.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Kim Meier and husband Gerry, and John Garrison and wife Gina; daughter-in-law, Robin Garrison; nephews, David Sawyer and wife Ruth, Joe R. Sawyer and wife Brenda, Keith Alan Sawyer and wife Linda; and John William Sawyer and wife Delana; great nephews and nieces; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A graveside memorial for Bill will be held at Barren Creak Cemetery located at 651 E. 430th Rd, Bolivar, MO 65613 at a later date.
